Carolyn Ann O'Hagan Barwise

February 28, 1931 — March 3, 2025

WORCESTER/WAKEFIELD, RI - Carolyn Ann O'Hagan Barwise passed away on March 3, 2025. She lived a long and loving life.

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia to Charles and Andrena O'Hagan, Carolyn was the eldest of four fun-loving daughters. After marrying David Barwise, they embarked on a journey of ministry to others within the United Church of Canada and the United Methodist Church. David's ministry took them to churches throughout New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island, finally settling in South Walpole, Massachusetts, and eventually Wakefield, Rhode Island, where they lived for over 40 years. There Carolyn enjoyed working in various schools in the area, mainly helping children attain reading skills and in special education. She was most recently a faithful member of Kingston Congregational Church for decades serving on many boards and had a particular passion for outreach ministries.

She was a prolific letter writer and card sender always spreading cheer to those in need. Carolyn was a wonderful cook, talented knitter and quilt maker creating many memorable sweaters and quilts over the years which are still being enjoyed by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She also had a passion for all the cats and dogs in her life, even throwing birthday parties for dogs who are now surely enjoying her company.

Carolyn was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Reverend David Barwise. She leaves behind her loving children, Joy Barwise and Robert (Cheryl) Barwise, her grandchildren, Timothy (Addison) Barwise and their daughters, Aoife and Bridget; and Leah (Daniel) Fougere, and their sons, Elio and Graham. She also leaves behind her beloved sisters Maureen Whitman and Beverly (Fred) Were, both of Nova Scotia, and many nieces and nephews throughout Canada. Carolyn was predeceased by her dear sister, Jeanette.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center in Worcester, Massachusetts for their dedication and kindness shown to Carolyn.

A private family remembrance will take place in the near future. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.
