Carol Ann (Smithling) Dipietro

WEST BOYLSTON - Carol Ann (Smithling) DiPietro, 70, of West Boylston, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester after a brief illness. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Carol was the daughter of Ernest and Melba (Sanders) Smithling and lived 40 years in West Boylston.

She is survived and will be lovingly missed by her husband of 46 years, John B. DiPietro, Sr.; her three children, John B. DiPietro, Jr. of West Boylston, Michael E. DiPietro and his wife Kristin of Lancaster, and Diana M. West and her husband Paul of Worcester; her mother, Melba Smithland, who is 91; a brother, Ernest Smithling and his wife Debra of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; two sisters, Patricia Majka and her husband Joseph of Utica, New York and Janie Smithling of San Diego, California; 7grandchildren, Matthew, John, Anthony, Brianna, Steven, Paul, and Ryan; a great granddaughter, Maria; nephews and nieces.

Carol's formative years were spent travelling with her family and attending schools throughout the country. In 1968, Carol married the love of her life and later moved to West Boylston where together raised their three children. Despite the challenge of several illnesses throughout her lifetime, Carol never complained and remained highly spirited. She was a model mother and a beacon of courage and always encouraged her children to be kind to others and to each other. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, great grandmother and friend, and will remembered for nurturing and gentle nature.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Carol's family from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 9, at the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 9, at St. Mary of the Hills Church, 630 Cross Street, Boylston. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Church Street, West Boylston. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Why Me & Sherry's House, 1152 Pleasant Street, Worcester, MA 01602( www.whyme.org ), or Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Memorial Contributions, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
