Carl V. Schavone

November 8, 1924 — January 16, 2016

HOLDEN/MARLBOROUGH - Carl V. Schavone, 91, formerly of Marlborough, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester. Born in Wayland and raised in Natick, Carl was the son of Christy and Madeline (O’Malley) Schavone and lived 48 years in Marlborough before moving to Holden in 2001.   Carl graduated from Natick High School in 1942 and worked over 30 years for Bay State Abrasives in Westborough retiring in 1988. He honorably served his country during both World War II and the Korean Conflict with the United States Army. While in Marlborough, Carl was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 638 and Saint Ann’s Church. He enjoyed playing card games with his friends and family including cribbage, pitch, whist, and poker. Carl stayed active throughout the years and belonged to several local golf and bowling leagues. One of his favorite pastimes was tending to his vegetable garden in which he took great pride. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and was proud of his children and their many accomplishments. He will be remembered for his golf sweaters, integrity and his ability to laugh at himself. His wife of 50 years, Marguerite T. (Schofield) Schavone died in 2009. He leaves six children, Raymond C. Schavone and his wife, Donna of Boylston, David C. Schavone and his wife, Linda of Marlborough, Theresa A. Linnell of Berlin, Christine M. Reilly and her husband, William of Paxton, Carleen M. Smith and her husband, James of Jefferson, and Peter A. Schavone and his wife, Jodi of Apex, NC; 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; many nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by three brothers, Michael, Bob, and Francis Schavone, two sisters, Mary Goodwin and Madeline Schavone, and his son in law, Bruce Linnell.
