Carl Hugo Raatikainen was born on September 30, 1939 and died on February 7, 2023. He was born in Fitchburg, the son of Fabian and Aune (Mandell) Raatikainen. He was very proud of his Finnish/Viking heritage.
He leaves behind his “favorite” wife, Peg Kirby and his four daughters; Jill Zorn and her husband, Sam, Annie Weiller and her husband, Chris, Linda Hutchinson and Joanie Prokosch and her husband, George; four grandchildren, Sarah Fleming, Alex Quesenberry, Meigan Sobczyk and Jennifer Ilg; two great grandchildren, Hunter and Genevieve; four step-children, Grace Kirby Steinau and her husband, Rick, John Kirby and his wife Laurie, Heidi Pirani and her husband, Craig, and Casey Kirby; his pets, Dolce, Louise and Tinkerbell; as well as many grand-dogs.
Carl graduated from Fitchburg High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from UMass Lowell. For many years he worked for Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. and later Setra Systems as a Senior Production Technician. Carl will be remembered for his willingness for adventure, his extensive travel history and very quick and subtle wit. He could fix almost anything with his perseverance and his grandfather’s tools.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering from 3 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at the family home, 12 Hunthurst Circle, Worcester. A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be determined. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.
