WORCESTER - Burton Franklin Berg, age 93, vibrantly practiced law until his death at age ninety three. He also maintained a lengthy association with his former law school roommate, Samuel Laipson, by sharing office space for over sixty years until the passing of Mr. Laipson.
He leaves his wife, Lois Rozefsky Berg; his sister Barbara Finesmith of Boston and a nephew Mark Mazur and his wife Sandra of Boston and their son Ethan; his brother-in law and sister- in law, Richard and Marilyn (Rozefsky) Perlman of Worcester and their daughter Caroline Cahn, wife of David Cahn of Baltimore, and Evan Perlman and his wife Catherine Crow of Arlington, Va. and their sons George and Harry . He also leaves two grand nieces, Sarah Cahn of Washington, D.C. , and Jessica Cahn of Somerville. He was predeceased by his two children, Jonathan Samuel Berg and Betsey Lyn Berg. He also leaves Joanne and Dominick Nelson who were surrogate family members.
He was born in Worcester, the son of Louis and Eva Krock Berg and was lifelong resident. He was a graduate of Clark University and Boston University School of Law.
Following law school, he served in the Attorney General’s office in Boston where he specialized in Eminent Domain. Once establishing his private practice he focused on this area of the law as well as general practice. He maintained an office in North Brookfield, as well as in Worcester.
Burt was especially cognizant of the importance of family and despite the loss of his two children, he formed deep friendships and interests with friends and family. Further, he mentored other attorneys, and was actively engaged with helping others. He also was an avid reader, collector of post cards and relished his time at his home on Cape Cod where he loved to garden. He was also known as a man who appreciated a good joke, and was an avid collector of wine. He and Lois became each other’s fortress as well enjoying an endearing friendship.
Thank you to Dr. Paul Dufault and Mary Ann Dufault, as well as Mary Jane Ferguson for their guidance and support during this time of need.
