Stowell 'Bud' Whitney Pratt

October 11, 1926 — January 25, 2010

WORCESTER — Stowell (Bud) Pratt, 83, formerly of Princeton, died Monday, January 25, 2010. He passed away peacefully at home of natural causes following a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease, surrounded by his family.

Bud was born on October 11, 1926 in Stafford Springs, CT to Walter H. and Marilla N. Pratt, and was raised and educated in Wellesley Hills, MA with his brother, Walter H., Jr. (deceased.) Bud was a veteran of the U.S. Navy (WWII) and a graduate of the Vesper George School of Art in Boston, where he met his wife, Marilyn I. (Stimson) Pratt. They were married in 1950 in Norwood, MA, and raised their four children in the towns of Sudbury and Wilbraham.

In addition to Marilyn, his wife of 59 years, Bud leaves his four children and their spouses: Deborah W. Pratt of Worcester; David H. Pratt and his wife, Elizabeth, of Leominster; Jonathan S. Pratt and his wife, Robin, of Holden; and Melissa B. Howard and her husband, Andrew, of Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Kali, Patrick, Sumner, Kirsten, Alayna, Joshua and Marissa.

An industrial designer/model-maker by trade, Bud enjoyed a long career at bay state companies including Atkins and Merrill of Sudbury, Searle Medi-Data Sciences of Waltham, and Milton Bradley of East Longmeadow. At the age of 57, Bud established his own model-making business, Princeton Prototype, in Princeton, MA, where he and Marilyn designed and built their own home and eventually retired. The Pratt's have lived at the Briarwood Continuing Care Community in Worcester for the past five years.

Bud was a prolific carpenter, cabinet-maker and wood-carver. In his free time, he was an avid outdoorsman—enjoying fishing, camping, hiking and downhill skiing. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Princeton (UCC), where he served for many years as a trustee and member of the church council. He served on the building committee during the renovation of the Princeton Public Library, served on the board for Wachusett House, and was a member of the Princeton Arts Society.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 11 A.M. at the First
