Bruce M. Westlund

HUBBARDSTON – Bruce M. Westlund, 87, of Hubbardston, peacefully passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025, at home in the loving care of his family.

Bruce M. Westlund was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on August 17, 1937, the son of Austin V. and Doris I. (McNiven) Westlund. He was raised in Boylston, Massachusetts. Bruce was a 1955 graduate of Worcester Boys Trade School.

Shortly after, Bruce began his career at Norton Company, Worcester, MA., retiring as a Mechanical Engineer after 37 years in 1992.

Bruce met the love of his life, Joanne Friberg, and the two were married on October 26, 1957. Together they built a rich and joyful life, filled with family memories, traditions, and travel adventures that took them across the seasons of life and the globe. They especially cherished their time together in Bonita Springs, Florida, where they spent many winters enjoying friendships and shared activities.

Bruce had a wide range of interests and was known for all his “collections”, especially tools. He enjoyed playing bocce while in Florida and his Thursday weekly meetings with his Hubbardston “Selectmens Club” friends. But most of all, he enjoyed working in his yard and caring for his home that he built with his sons. He was a member of the Hubbardston Lion’s Club and was a Mason.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Joanne (Friberg) Westlund; his son, Andrew C. Westlund; his brother, John “Jack” Westlund and his sister, Joanne George.

He will be lovingly missed and remembered by his two sons, Mark B. Westlund and his wife, Darlene of Hubbardston, and John W. Westlund and his wife, Robin of Centerville; his sister, Charlotte Gabrielson; his grandchildren, John M. Westlund and his wife Bianca and Meghan C. Westlund; his great grandchild, Ivy C. Westlund, as well as many nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, MA. A graveside service will follow on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Rural Glen Cemetery in Hubbardston, MA.
