Bruce W. Kennen

November 30, 1952 — July 21, 2023

Bruce Winthrop Kennen, 70, beloved husband of Cathleen C. (Bengtson), passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, July 21, 2023 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Bruce was born to the late Clayton and Florence (Partridge) Kennen and raised in Leicester, Massachusetts.

After graduating from Leicester High School, Bruce attended Worcester Junior College but his love for his country compelled him to enlist in the United States Army and proudly serve his country during the Vietnam Era. Bruce enjoyed a successful and rewarding career as a maintenance machinist with The Norton Company, and retired after 38 years of dedicated service. Always looking to further his education, Bruce attended the business program at WPI where he received an Associate’s Degree.

In 1981, Bruce married the love of his life, Cathleen and they were married for over 43 years. Bruce and Cathie settled in Spencer where together they raised their family and formed lasting friendships.
Bruce was a member of the Greendale Retired Men’s Club and DeMolay International in his younger years. He enjoyed putting his mechanical skills to use in his spare time; he always had projects to work on and was quick to offer help to anyone around him. Bruce loved the ocean and enjoyed spending time on Cape Cod and Nettles Island in Jensen Beach, Florida. On Nettles Island, Bruce and Cathie built strong friendships with neighbors from near and far during vacation visits. Above all else, nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his family and grandchildren. Bruce had a special bond with each of his friends and family members and brought a smile to all around him.

He will be lovingly missed and remembered by his wife and best friend Cathleen; his daughter, Christin Sanders and her husband, Eric of Ashland; three sons, Jason Kennen and his wife, Jessica of Spencer, James Rogers of Holden, and Brian Kennen and his wife, Colleen of Spencer; his sister, Marilyn Flavin of Spencer; nine grandchildren, Bryce, Tyler, Caitlin, Hannah, Madeline, Annabelle, Olivia, Clayton, and Dean; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Philip Kennen.

All services are private and under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the MGH fund at www.MassGeneral.org
