WEST BOYLSTON – Bruce J. Phelps, 74, of West Boylston died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, April 2, 2006.

He leaves his beloved wife of 51 years, Luella M. (Lincoln) Phelps; two daughters, Bonnie L. Reynolds and her husband John of Lunenburg, and Cherie L. Kerxhalli and her dear friend David Fontaine both of Holden; his mother, Grace A. (Parker) Phelps of West Boylston; a sister, Audrey J. Daigneau and her husband Franklin of West Boylston; four grandchildren, Ian and James Reynolds, Rebecca and Joseph Kerxhalli and their father Thomas Kerxhalli; and many nephews and nieces. A brother, Ronald L. Phelps, predeceased him. He was born in Holden the son of Stanley R. and Grace A. (Parker) Phelps and lived most of his life in West Boylston.

Mr. Phelps graduated from Major Edwards High School in West Boylston and did postgraduate studies at Worcester Boy’s Trade High School. He began his career as a skilled carpenter and worked locally for over 15 years. He later worked 35 years as a machinist for Duncan M. Gillies Co., Inc. in West Boylston. He a devoted member of the First Congregational Church of West Boylston where he served on several boards and committees and was a member of the Greendale Retired Men’s Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, helping others and golfing. He served eight years in the U.S. Naval Reserves.

A memorial service for Mr. Phelps will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, in the First Congregational Church of West Boylston, 26 Central Street. Burial will be private in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, West Boylston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Congregational Church of West Boylston, 26 Central Street, West Boylston, MA 01583. Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling, is directing arrangements.
