Biography
WEST BROOKFIELD – Bruce Lancaster Harding, 85, of West Brookfield passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2017 surrounded by his loved ones. He leaves his wife of 63 years, Evelyn (DeWolfe) Harding; his four children, Keith J. Harding and his wife, Atsuko, of Westminster, MA, Kathryn (Harding) Wrona and her husband, Mike, of Swanzey, NH, Jacqueline (Harding) Apessos of Warren, MA and John D. Harding of Leicester, MA. He also leaves six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
His family has a rich New England heritage including nine of the families aboard the Mayflower among his ancestors.
Bruce graduated from Michigan State University with a B.S. in Engineering and did his Graduate studies at Purdue University. He worked as a design engineer until his retirement from Smith Valve Corporation.
He was a member of the Worcester Gem & Mineral Club and earned his certification from the Gemological Institute of America. He made many groundbreaking contributions to the science of gemology and gem/diamond cutting. He lived a life of curiosity and had a brilliant mind. He held many patents and had a passion for gardening, mathematics and language.
Services will be private. Johnny Harding, Bruce’s autistic son, is a resident at ARCHway’s program for the autististic.
