HOLDEN – Brooks Seymour Webster, 73, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 1, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, surrounded by his family. Born in Lowell, Brooks was the son of Howard E. and Betty (Prescott) Webster and lived most of his life in Holden.
Brooks graduated from Wachusett Regional High School in 1963 and attended Quinsigamond Community College. Brooks honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era followed by continual service for 27 years, retiring as a E-9 Sergeant Major. He worked as an industrial engineer at Norton Company for 39 years, retiring in 2004. Brooks was a longtime member of the John E. Harkins American Legion Post #42 in Holden and was one of the organizers of the Holden Memorial Day Parade.
Besides serving on various town committees he was a member of the NIMROD Sportsman Club, the Holden Historical Society and a former member of the First Congregational Church of Holden. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, time spent at Moosehead Lake in Maine and Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire and listening to jazz music.
He was a loyal man, passionate and steadfast in his beliefs, and an advocate for those who could not advocate for themselves.
He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his beloved wife of 24 years, Denise E. Benn-Webster; his son, Steven B. Webster and his wife, Patricia of North Brookfield; and his sister, Diane Webster of Harwich.
A graveside service honoring Brooks’ life will be held at a later date at Grove Cemetery, Main Street, Holden.
