Brenda M. (Locke) Day

July 29, 1940 — January 1, 2014

STERLING – Brenda M. (Locke) Day, wife of W. Douglas Day, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at UMass Memorial Healthcare in Worcester. She was born in Clinton and raised in Lancaster, the daughter of Wilburt and Mauree (Lamb) Locke.

Brenda graduated from Lancaster High School in 1959 and Leominster Hospital School of Nursing in 1962. She began her nursing career at Leominster Hospital and later became a purchasing agent for the hospital for 20 years. In 1962 she married the love of her life, W. Douglas Day. Together they raised their family in their Sterling home where she lived for 52 years.

A lifelong member of the Evangelical Congregational Church in Lancaster, Brenda was also a member of the Hiram O. Taylor American Legion Post #189 Women’s Auxiliary in Sterling.

Brenda will lovingly be remembered by her kindness and love for all. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her children and her grandchildren. She leaves her beloved husband of 51 years, W. Douglas Day; her sons, David Day and his wife, Therese and Deane Day and his wife, Lisa, all of Sterling; her brothers, Brad Locke and Bryan Locke, both of Lancaster; her grandchildren, Katelyn, Joelle and Devin Day, Samantha Ingui, Michael, Chris, Alex and Stephanie Garceau, her great-granddaughter, Aubree Ingui; her nieces and nephews, Brad Locke, Kristen Safford, Kari Currie, Jennifer LeBlanc and Amy Locke-Ortiz; and her grandnieces and grandnephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, January 4, from 4 – 7 p.m. in the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. Brenda’s funeral will be held on Sunday, January 5, at 2 p.m. in the Evangelical Congregational Church of Lancaster, 793 Main Street, Lancaster. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sterling Firefighters Association, P.O. Box 1081, Sterling, MA 01564.
