WORCESTER - Brenda S.M. (Habbit) Hamilton 92, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 after a long illness. Brenda was the daughter of the late Alex and Lora (LaCour) Habbit.
Brenda was born on December 29, 1922 in San Antonio, Texas. She left school at age sixteen to support herself. She worked as a typist and secretary then enlisted and served in the United States Coast Guard from January 1943 to May 1945. Brenda married an Air Force Soldier, John Hamilton, on May 6, 1944.
After raising her children she completed high school and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Art and English from Worcester State College, graduating 1977.
Brenda was a substitute teacher for the Worcester public schools and surrounding towns. She enjoyed traveling to many countries including Egypt, Scotland, Germany, Spain, England, and to Rome where she had an audience with the Pope.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was fun loving, spirited, a talented artist and a gourmet cook. Eight years ago, due to advanced Alzheimer’s disease, Brenda entered Golden Living-The Hermitage Care Facility in Worcester, where she remained under the loving care of her family, Golden Living staff and most recently, additional care provided to her by AseraCare Hospice.
Brenda leaves her beloved husband of 71 years, John D. Hamilton; a son, Kent G. Hamilton and his wife, Linda of Simi Valley, California; a daughter, Shelley A. McKiernan and her husband, Terence J. of Holden; three grandchildren, Brice and Ian Hamilton, and Sean McKiernan; nieces, nephews and two great-grandchildren.
A private funeral service honoring Brenda’s life was held at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St. Holden. She was laid to rest on October 1, 2015 at All Faith’s Cemetery in Worcester. To share a memory or offer a condolence please "Sign the Guestbook" on this page.
