WORCESTER - Bobbie (Roberta Susan Nathan) Chase, 79, wife of Nick Chase, died October 4, 2023, at Rose Monahan Hospice House, from vascular dementia. Born December 12, 1943, the only child of Dorothy (Socofsky) and Col. Aaron Nathan, she grew up as a “military brat”, a life she loved. She graduated from UMass Amherst in 1966 with a B.A. with Honors in English, and first experienced being a “disc jockey” when she hosted a daily classical music program on the student radio station.
She was librarian at four high schools - Quabbin Regional, Wachusett Regional, Southbridge, and Oxford, before retiring in 2002. But Bobbie was also well known as a radio announcer - classical music on WICN, then WCUW; and later, she also announced on commercial radio: WSRS and WTAG. At WCUW, for over 40 years she and Nick recorded and broadcast more than 1300 locally performed classical music concerts.
For 42 years Bobbie was also the announcer for the Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra’s outdoor summer concerts. And, she and Nick were puppy-raisers of 12 service dogs for NEADS.
Bobbie is survived by her partner and husband, Nick; her “adopted” son Seth Isenberg and wife Ruth; and several cousins. Her funeral will be at 2 P.M. on Monday, October 9, 2023, at Temple Emanuel Sinai, 661 Salisbury Street, Worcester. Nick will be there an hour earlier to greet people. Burial will be in Florida. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home of Holden.
