HOLDEN – Blanche E. (Gagne) Gendron Zukowski, 95, formerly of Worcester, died peacefully on Saturday, October 19, 2013, under the loving care of her family and the staff at Holden Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center, Holden. She was born in Grafton, the daughter of Henry and Laura (Lemieux) Gagne and had lived in Worcester for many years before moving to Holden.
Her husband of 47 years, George Zukowski, died in 2001. She is survived and will be sadly missed by her children, James A. Gendron and his wife Donna of Shrewsbury, Gerald C. Gendron and his wife Nancy of Worcester, Betsy A. Cox and her husband Mike of West Brookfield and Sandra J. Splaine and her husband Brad of Princeton. She leaves her son-in-law, George Gamble and his friend Jacqueline Nichols of Worcester; a sister, Evelyn Newton of New Gloucester, ME; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A daughter, Lorraine Gamble, predeceased her in 1995. She is also predeceased by a brother, Joseph Gagne, two sisters, Mabel O’Toole and Florence Lavallee and her grandchild, Jonathan Scott Gendron.
Blanche was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker and loved baking, decorating and making crafts. She was well known for her beautiful ornaments, one of which adorned the Christmas tree in the White House during the Ford Administration. She loved music and was an avid dancer. Blanche was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Worcester.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5-8 p.m., on Monday, October 21, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A funeral service celebrating Blanche’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 22 in the funeral home, followed by burial at Hope Cemetery in Worcester.
