Beverly A. (Varney) Tribandis

February 23, 1929 — March 25, 2016

WORCESTER/HOLDEN - Beverly A. (Varney) "Bubbles" Tribandis, 87, wife of the late Albin J. Tribandis, died March 25, 2016, at Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, with her children by her side, after a long journey with Alzheimer’s Disease. Beverly was born and raised in Worcester, the daughter of Robert E. and Josephine (Perriello) Varney. After marrying Albie in 1952, she raised her family in Worcester, and then spent 12 happy retirement years in Centerville on the Cape before moving to Holden in 1996.
She leaves three children, Linda J. Rudman and her husband, David of Shrewsbury, Allan L. Tribandis of Methuen, and Christine R. Woodward of Worcester. She was "Mamma Bandis" to five grandchildren, Jason W. Rudman and his wife, Angela, Jennifer L. and her husband, Jonathan E. Daby, Erica A. Tribandis and her partner, Carlos Juarez, Hannah L. and Rachel A. Woodward; six great-grandchildren, Gracie (Thea) Tribandis, Liliana Rudman, Julius Nolasco, Averie, Amelia and Carlos Juarez. A son, Robert L. Tribandis, a brother, Robert C. Varney, a daughter-in-law, Cynthia A. Tribandis, and a granddaughter, Kathryn R. Tribandis predeceased her.
She graduated from Commerce High School and began working for the Worcester Mutual Insurance Co. where she made lifelong friends – the 29’rs Club. After raising her family she worked at the Worcester Airport, the former Professional Pharmacy, and she retired from Worcester Central District Court.
Beverly was the consummate homemaker. With her talents for furniture refinishing, drapery making, handmade quilts, decorative painting, crafting and her ever changing seasonal décor, and much more, she made every home a welcome retreat for her family and many friends. She made clothing for her family from christening gowns to wedding dresses and every occasion in between. Every meal was a culinary delight and often included her homemade jams, jellies, pickles and relishes and of course ice cream. She had a green thumb and her gardens were always a visual treat. She and Albie loved dancing and before Alzheimer’s robbed of her of so much, she played her piano every day. Her children fondly remember doing their homework to the lovely sound of their beautiful mom singing as she played. Every family gathering included a family sing along. It was a sad day when Alzheimer’s took that away from her. After she entered the nursing home, her daughter Linda kept the music alive with their many long drives throughout central Massachusetts as Beverly sang along to her beloved music playing on CD.
Camping with her family was another passion for Beverly. Her most memorable trip was a six week excursion cross country in their station wagon, pulling a pop-up camper behind them, through rain storms on the plains, and summer snow storms in Yellowstone Park until they reached California. Through it all, she made it the trip of a lifetime for the entire family.
Beverly earned her retirement. The Progressive Club, the 29’rs, the Red Hats and the Holden Senior Center were among the many social endeavors she enjoyed during her retirement years both on the Cape and in Holden.
Mom, Mamma, Bev, the most beautiful woman in the world, our hearts are broken and our world will never be the same now that you are an angel in your heavenly home. But we are joyful knowing that you are once again dancing with dad, playing the piano and reunited with your son Bobby and other loved ones. We love you a bushel and peck and a hug around the neck!
Beverly’s family wishes to express a note of deep appreciation and gratitude to the staff at Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, especially the Treasured Moments Memory Care, as well as JHC Hospice for the loving and compassionate care she received while there.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour on Saturday, April, 2, from 1 to 3 p.m. followed by a 3 p.m. service in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A private committal service will be held at a later date at Hope Cemetery in Worcester.
