Beverly J. (Grout) Mason

RUTLAND – Beverly J. (Grout) Mason, age 80, passed away peacefully at UMass Medical Center – University Campus on Monday, February 22, 2021. Born in Holden, the daughter of the late Chester W. and Ethel A. (Harrington) Grout, Beverly grew up in Princeton where she had many happy childhood memories. Beverly moved to Rutland in 1966 where she raised her family and made many life-long friends.

A selfless woman in nature, Beverly was known to drop anything to help a friend, family member or someone in need. In the face of adversity, she always stayed positive. She was resilient and determined to provide a good life for her children, even if that meant working three jobs.

After graduating from Wachusett Regional High School, she went on to work as a Secretary at Norton Company in Worcester. When her children were young, she worked in the cafeteria at Naquag Elementary School in Rutland. Later in life, she worked in Medical Billing at St. Vincent Radiological Associates.

Beverly’s whole heart was her family and in recent years nothing brought her more pride and joy than her grandchildren. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, and baking for them. Whether it was baking cookies, cakes, or pies, her family could always find her putting together something special from scratch. She also loved spending time with her special beagle Millie and her weekly gatherings playing Hot Dice with friends. She was a devout Protestant and member of the First Congregational Church of Rutland.

She will be lovingly missed by her two sons, William H. Mason and his wife, Nicole of Rutland, Robert M. Mason and his wife, Linda of Rutland; her sister, Marjorie Cole and her husband, Durward of Princeton; five grandchildren, Clayton Mason, Sophia Mason, Elizabeth Mason, Emily Fasshauer and Sarah Fasshauer; two nephews, James MacGeachey Jr. and John MacGeachey. She is predeceased by her sister, Lois MacGeachey and her husband Russell.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Beverly’s family on Sunday, February 28 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A funeral service honoring her life will take place the following day, Monday, March 1, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Rutland, 264 Main St., Rutland. Burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, Greater Worcester Funeral Care.
