HOLDEN - Beverly F. (Baer) Ham, age 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 27, 2011, at the Holden Nursing Home, Holden. Beverly was born in Worcester, daughter of Walter E. and Mary F. (Clifford) Baer. She lived in Holden from 1950 until 1985, when she moved to St. Augustine, Florida. She returned to Holden in April, 2011. Beverly graduated from North High School, Worcester and Garland School of Homemaking, Boston.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, J. Philip Ham and her six children and 14 grandchildren: Judith and her husband Allen Perry of Holden and their daughter Cassandra Herlihy; John "Jack" Ham and his wife, Ruth of Winchester, Virginia and their four children, Lindsay, David, Eric and Cate; Deborah Ham of Worcester and her son, Evan Scola; Dana Ham of Portland Oregon and his three children, Tyler Carlson-Ham, Corey Carlson-Ham and Kesslie Carlson-Ham; Jeffrey Ham and his wife Cathy of Rutland and their three children, Megan, Jeffrey and Steven; and Jennifer Gifford of Temple, New Hampshire and her two children, Matthew and Emily. Beverly was predeceased by a sister, Irene Baril and a brother, Everett Baer, who died at the age of 10 from a sledding accident. She was also predeceased by a grandson, Joshua Perry. Beverly also has 4 great grandchildren: Kylie, Peyton and Caden Perry and Ainsley Herlihy.
Throughout her life, Beverly held many varied positions. She worked for Singer Sewing Machine Co. teaching sewing, which carried over into her home life, especially when she would sew Easter outfits for her six children. Beverly also worked as a part-time bank teller for Worcester County National Bank. She later worked as an assistant to James Harrington of James J. Harrington, Public Accountants. She specialized in nursing home accounts throughout the Worcester County.
Beverly was an active member of the St. Mary's Church Woman's Guild, where she very successfully co-chaired the annual Harvest Bazaar for many years. She was a member of the Froshinn Club in Worcester standing out as a champion in their mixed bowling league. She was president of the American Legion Post Auxiliary at Brittain Square. Another favorite pastime was sailing on the family Friendship Sloop, Calypso. After her move to St. Augustine, Beverly was a member of the St. Augustine Shores Riverview Club, where she enjoyed socializing with friends and neighbors, playing bridge and organizing pot luck suppers. Her charm, sense of humor and maternal wisdom will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 2, at St. Mary's Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Joshua Perry Memorial Children's Fund, c/o Leominster Credit Union, 715 Main Street, Holden, MA 01520.
