HOLDEN – Betty L. (Horstman) Kneeland, 83, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at UMass Memorial Healthcare, Memorial Campus. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Frederick W. and Sigrid (Anderson) Horstman and lived most of her life in Holden.
Betty graduated from David Fanning Girls Trade School in Worcester and worked as a secretary for Martin Tool & Manufacturing Co. in Hubbardston retiring in 1991. She was an active member of Chaffin Congregational Church in Holden and its Mary Martha Circle. She enjoyed baking and decorating cakes for all occasions especially weddings. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who looked forward to family gatherings. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends and remembered for her loving and selfless nature.
Her beloved husband of 53 years, Donald J. Kneeland, Sr. passed away in 2009. She is survived by a son, Donald J. Kneeland, Jr. of Holden; two daughters, Elisabeth Dacri and her husband, Jeffrey of Holden and Katherine DeLuca and her husband, Wayne of Marlborough; a grandson, Kevin Dacri of Holden; a sister, Ruth Burbank of Columbiana, AL; and nephews, nieces and cousins. Besides her husband and parents, Betty is predeceased by her siblings, Clara Burnham, Marjorie Howard, and Frederick Horstman. She also leaves her canine companion Ranger.
The funeral service celebrating Betty’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 30, in the Chaffin Congregational Church, 155 Shrewsbury St., Holden. Interment will follow at Grove Cemetery, Holden. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Betty to Chaffin Congregational Church Memorial Fund, 155 Shrewsbury St., Holden, MA 01520, or to a charity of one’s choice.
