Holden/Spencer – Betty J. (Wehkoja) Carlson, 86, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 3, 2025, surrounded by the comfort of her loved ones.
Born in Worcester, Betty was the daughter of the late Bernhardt B. and Lillian A. (Dufva) Wehkoja. She was a proud graduate of Commerce High School and dedicated many years of service as a secretary at Wachusett High School, where she was known for her warmth, efficiency, and kindhearted nature.
Betty shared a beautiful life with her beloved husband, Jack, making their home in Holden for 60 years. A creative spirit, she found joy in expressing herself through various crafts. She was a talented seamstress, took great pleasure in ceramics, and was especially admired for her exquisite cake-decorating skills. Her artistic touch and loving presence enriched the lives of those around her.
Betty was predeceased by her devoted husband of 56 years, John (Jack) H. Carlson, in 2015. She leaves behind her cherished sister, Joan LaForce of Spencer, along with her beloved nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Amy Shimkus, Debbie O’Malley, and Bruce Wehkoja.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a calling hour from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Burial will take place privately at a later date at Grove Cemetery, Holden.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011, in honor of Betty’s kind and generous spirit.
