Biography
WORCESTER- Bess Kollias, 88, of Worcester, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at home. She was born in Worcester, a daughter of the late James and Malama (Vlahakis) Kollias and lived in Worcester her whole life. Bess graduated from the former Commerce High School. She was Office Manager at George A. Smith and Company for more than 30 years.

Bess was a devoted and faithful member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, a member of its Philoptochos Society, a 25 year member of the Daughters of Penelope, and loved working at the Cathedral’s bi-annual Grecian Festivals. The dedication and commitment to her Greek Orthodox faith was exemplified in everything she did. Bess, being the prolific writer that she was, served as corresponding secretary for the Council of Eastern Orthodox Churches of Central Massachusetts for many years. She also played an integral role in the creation of Holy Trinity Eastern Orthodox Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Worcester. She will be remembered as a selfless, loving, and compassionate aunt; whose family meant everything in the world to her.

She leaves a brother, Paris J. Kollias and his wife, Marion of Portland, CT; two nieces, Diane K. Bascom and her husband, Donald of Portland, CT and Marlene A. Kollias of Middletown, CT; a nephew, Paul P. Kollias of East Hampton, CT; a grandnephew, Brian J. Bascom and a grandniece, Katherine L. Bascom, both of Portland, CT. A brother, John J. Kollias of Cheshire, CT died in 2009.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bess’s family on Thursday, September 24th, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester followed by a funeral service honoring her life at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery.
