Biography
HOLDEN – Bertil I. Bengtson, 88, of Malden Street, passed away at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester on Sunday, October 16, 2011. His wife of 43 years, Helena M. (Tomaiolo) Bengtson, died in 2003.
Bertil was born in Tvaaker, Sweden, on July 8, 1923, a son of Johan A. and Charlotta (Leontina) Bengtson, and immigrated to the U.S. in 1948. His first job was at Svea Baking and for 30 years he was a welder at George Myers Co. in Worcester. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Worcester and the Scandinavian Athletic Club in Shrewsbury, where he enjoyed visiting with friends.
He leaves his close friend, Joan Anderson of Douglas; two cousins, Gerrie Suozzl and Betty Ann Bernard, both of Sutton; many nephews and nieces in Sweden. Seven brothers and sisters predeceased him.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 24, in the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 200 Greenwood Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery, 1290 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Emanuel Lutheran Church, Memorial Fund, 200 Greenwood Street, Worcester, MA 01607.
