Biography
HOLDEN – Bernard Russell Locke, 99, passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at St. Vincent Hospital after an illness. Russ was born in Worcester, the son of Bernard B. and Lillian K. (Carroll) Locke and lived in Holden most of his life.
His first wife of 43 years, Betty (Kenney) Locke, passed away in 1983. His second wife of 19 years, Agnes E. (Dyer) Locke, passed away in 2003. He leaves a son, John R. Locke and his wife, Maureen of Holden; a daughter, Betty A. Hale of Holden; two stepsons, Donald Donadio of NJ and John Donadio of NC; a stepdaughter, Lois Moeller of NJ; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; several step-grand and step-great -grandchildren; nephews, nieces, grandnieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Geraldine Parker and his son-in-law, William E. Hale.
Russ worked for American Steel & Wire Company in Worcester for 30 years. He also worked at Zottoli Garage and the Massachusetts Department of Education and the Department of Youth Services. He was an all-around handyman and enjoyed music, traveling with his camper and spending time with his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, Dec. 5, from 5 to 7 pm in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Funeral services for Russ will be held on Friday, Dec. 6, with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Holden. Please omit flowers.
