HOLDEN – Bernard H. Tremblay, 75, of 146 Meadow Wood Drive, died Sunday, November 27, 2005 in the Hospice Residence at Coes Pond after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 34 years, Marjorie L. (Jones) Tremblay; a daughter, Sarah Tremblay Ghorbanian and her husband Michael of McLean, Virginia, four sons, Richard C. Tremblay and his wife Sandra of Cincinnati, Ohio, Donald P. Tremblay and his wife Jean of Berwyn, Pennsylvania, Joseph W. Tremblay and his wife Laura of Holden, and Christopher J. Tremblay of McLean, Virginia; a brother, Leo A. Tremblay of Jefferson; a sister, Lucy A. Welsh of Holden; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth, Virginia, John, William, Andrew, Betsy, and Tyler Tremblay and Michael and Miles Ghorbanian; and many nieces and nephews. His first wife, Virginia (Bouchard) Tremblay, died in 1965. Three brothers, Norman, Anthony and Robert Tremblay, and four sisters, Alice Desrosier, Rita, Sister Flora and Loretta Tremblay, predeceased him. He was born and raised in Jefferson, the son of Arthur L. and Lydia (Desjardins) Tremblay, and lived in Holden most of his life.

Mr. Tremblay graduated in 1948 from St. John’s High School in Worcester and in 1952 from The College of the Holy Cross. He received Masters Degrees in Education from Clark University, Mathematics from Boston College, and School Administration from Boston University. His career in teaching and school administration included Assumption Preparatory School in Worcester, where he taught from 1956 to 1962. From 1962 to 1976, he taught and was an assistant principal at Tahanto Regional High School in Boylston. He was an assistant principal at Wachusett Regional High School for 19 years, retiring in 1995. During his years as a teacher and administrator, Mr. Tremblay organized Tahanto and Wachusett entrants to the New England Math Fairs and Academic Decathlons, was an honorary member of the Future Farmers of America, and inspired many to pursue higher education. Following his retirement, he was a Sexton at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Holden and a volunteer driver for the Meals-on-Wheels program at the Holden Senior Center. For many years he enjoyed being a ''Den Dad'' for the Cub Scouts, an Indian Guide Leader, and was a long time member of the Holden Baseball Board of Directors.

He coached various sports teams including boy’s and girl’s youth soccer, girl’s softball and all levels of little league baseball in Holden. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Jefferson, the Alumni Sodality at Holy Cross, the Massachusetts Association of Secondary School Principals, and the Southern Worcester County Principal’s Association. In 2002, he was extremely proud to be honored as a member of the ''Purple Knights'' of Holy Cross College. Mr. Tremblay was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War, serving faithfully on the USS Robert L. Wilson and was a member of the U.S. Naval Reserves for 20 years, retiring as a Commander in 1978.

He will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his sense of humor, his consistent encouragement of young people regardless of the area of interest, and his passion for gardening.

Calling hours for Mr. Tremblay will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Sreet (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral will be held on Thursday, December 1, from Miles Funeral Home with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, 1325 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Donations may be made to the VNA Care Hospice Program, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608.
