Berdie Emma Fern (Hickson) Mcewan

RUTLAND – Berdie Emma Fern (Hickson) McEwan, 95, a 47-year resident of Rutland, died Wednesday, June 21, 2006, in the Parson’s Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Worcester.

Her husband of 37 years, Chesley B. McEwan, died in 1989. She leaves her son, Robert C. McEwan and his wife Colleen R. (Bertholdt) of Rutland; three granddaugthers, Laura, Susan and Kassandra McEwan all of Rutland; three nieces, Barbara Derosier and her husband Joseph of Canada, Mary Badger and her husband Mert of Florida, and Ethel Badger and her daughter Allison of California; and a close friend, Marjorie Pandiscio. A sister, Dorothy Badger, predeceased her. She was born in New Brunswick, Canada, daughter of Leonard W. and Ethel M. (Collins) Hickson.

Mrs. McEwan was a graduate of the New England Baptist School of Nursing in Boston. She was a registered nurse for over 30 years working for 10 years as a respected School Nurse at Naquag School in Rutland. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Rutland

The funeral service for Mrs. McEwan will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 26, in the First Congregational Church of Rutland, 264 Main Street (Rte. 122A). Burial will be private in Rural Cemetery, 142 Main Street, Rutland. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 25, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 484, Rutland, MA 01543.
