HOLDEN – Benson “Ben” P. Masterman, 76, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 30, 2013 while on vacation with his family. He was born in Worcester, the son of Philip N. and Sonia (Werblin) Masterman and had lived in Worcester and Leicester before moving to Holden in 1977.
He leaves his loving wife of 48 years, Linda A. (Milliken) Masterman; a daughter, Melissa M. Ruttle and her husband Brian of Princeton; a son, Tod Masterman and his wife Elizabeth of Princeton; six grandchildren, Jacob and Wyatt Ruttle, Allison, Sonia, Faye and Riley Masterman; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He graduated from Classical High School in 1954 and later attended the New England School of Accounting in Worcester. In 1961, Ben started Masterman’s, a wholesale supplier of Industrial Safety Products. In 1965, He married Linda Milliken and together they ran the business from their home on Grove St. in Leicester. They moved the business in 1969 to Water St. in Leicester and in 1981 to its current location in the Auburn Industrial Park. He was a former board member of the Boys and Girls Club of Worcester, the Leicester Savings Bank and the Millbury District Nurses. In his youth, Ben was a nationally ranked table tennis champion at the Boys Club of Worcester. He was a hard working family man who loved to spend time with his family, friends and his extended family at Masterman’s.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9, at Temple Sinai, 661 Salisbury Street, Worcester, with Rabbi Michael Swarttz officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ben P. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
