HOLDEN/PRINCETON – Daniel B. Doherty, 57, of Elmwood Avenue, Holden, died on Sunday, January 30, 2011 in UMass Memorial Healthcare-University Campus, Worcester, after a long battle with diabetes.

He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Ellayne M. (Fournier) Doherty; two step-sons, Robert J. Pickard and his fiancée Stacey Phillips of Derby, Connecticut and Vincent C. Pickard, his wife Robyn and their daughter, Jeannette of Ansonia, Connecticut; two brothers, Robert A. Doherty and his wife Julie of Rindge, New Hampshire and Gary R. Doherty and his wife Karen of Gilmanton, New Hampshire; four sisters, Regina R. Doherty of Florida, Sarah J. Doherty of Bath, Maine, Donna M. Doherty-Leahy and her husband Ted of Holden and Theresa Racca of Hubbardston; many nephews and nieces; grandnephews and nieces; and his beloved yellow lab, Dunkin'.

Daniel was born on July 28, 1953 in Clinton, son of the late Reginald and Eleanor (Marble) Doherty. He attended elementary school in Clinton and moved to Princeton in 1963 where he attended Wachusett Regional High School. He later graduated from the Northeastern Culinary Institute and was a professionally trained chef working from Cape Cod to Vermont. He also lived in Stratford, Connecticut, and worked as a sales representative for American Frozen Foods for 12 years, moving recently to Jefferson to be closer to his family. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #4311 in Worcester; and enjoyed dancing and skiing. As a young man he summered in Nantucket with his Uncle Ralph and Aunt Fi. Daniel had a strong belief that St. Patrick's Day should be a national holiday!

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour from 11 a.m. to 12 noon followed by a funeral service at noon on Thursday, February 3rd, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. Spring burial will be in South Cemetery, Berlin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fraternal Order of Eagles #4311 (for the Diabetes Foundation), 53 Norfolk Street, Worcester, MA 01604.
