HOLDEN/SOUTH DENNIS – Nellie B. (Coughlin) Carroll, 93, of Lee Lane, Holden and South Dennis, passed away at her daughter's home on Sunday, November 8, 2009.
Her husband of 54 years, John J. Carroll, Sr., died in 2007. She leaves two sons, John J. Carroll and his wife Mary Palermo of East Boston and Walter F. Carroll and his wife Deborah of Lansing, Illinois; two daughters, Mary Jude Carroll of Holden and Catherine Carroll Dubin and her husband Stephen of Holden; and five grandchildren, Kristen, Meghan, John, Mary and Casey. She was born in Towers Hill, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of G. Burton and Jessie (Gilman) Coughlin and lived in Waltham. She retired to South Dennis before moving to Holden four years ago.
Mrs. Carroll was a graduate of St. Charles High School in Waltham and worked for the City of Waltham Assessor's Office for many years, retiring in 1977. After retiring she enjoyed family and friends down the Cape. She was especially fond of her son-in-law, Stephen. She was a member of St. Pius X Church in South Yarmouth.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 12th, in St. Pius X Church, 5 Barbara Street, South Yarmouth. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, South Dennis. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden is directing arrangements.
