He was born in Boston, the youngest child of Thomas S. and Linda L. (Roth) Lehans, and lived all his life in Holden. Besides his parents, he leaves a sister, Meredith L. Lehans of Holden and East Hampton, Long Island, NY; his maternal grandmother, Louise Bartlett Roth of Bernardsville, NJ, and maternal grandmother, Audrey H. Lehans of Ocala, FL; his aunt and uncle, Alison E. Roth and David Price of Lawrenceville, NJ; his aunt Dara A. Lehans of Epsom, NH; his uncle, Carl C. Roth of Bernardsville, NJ; and cousins Emily H. He played on town baseball, basketball and soccer leagues, where he proudly wore a cast after breaking his arm defending a soccer goal. He was a Boy Scout in Holden Troop 180, and in recent years volunteered his time videotaping town events and meetings for Holden Cable TV. James loved music, books, walking in autumn weather, and the company of friends and family. He was a kind and caring soul, who lost his long struggle with depression and mental illness.
