WORCESTER - Barry E. Martin, 77, died Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Holden Nursing Home after a courageous battle with ALS - Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Barry was born in Worcester, a son of Meyer and Anne (Cohen) Martin, and was a lifelong resident.
A graduate of Commerce High School, Barry attended Worcester Junior College and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Bryant College. Barry worked for the Registry of Motor Vehicles and then for the State Tax Department, retiring in 2003. In the private sector he worked for Foster Grant and Day-Paul Plastics as a Cost Accountant for over 25 years. He was proud to have served in the U.S. Army Reserves for many years.
He was an avid athlete and enjoyed working out, cycling and skiing in Vermont where he was a longtime member and past president of Mount Laurel Skiers. He also had a passion for cars, especially vintage Hudson motor cars and Cape Cod.
Barry will be lovingly missed and remembered by his brother, Stuart Martin and his wife, Kay of Sharon; his sister, Rhonda Sigel and her husband, Ira of Worcester; nephews, Adam Sigel and his wife, Olga of North Reading and Seth Sigel and his wife, Kristin of Woodinville, WA; a niece, Alyssa Short and her husband, Michael of Stoughton. He was predeceased by his sister, Myra Steinhaus in 2010.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 29, at Congregation Beth Israel, 15 Jamesbury Drive, Worcester under the direction of Miles Funeral Home of Holden. Burial will be in Holy Society Cemetery in Leicester.
