Worcester - Barry Lawrence Krock, 90, of Worcester, died on August 27th, surrounded by his family, after a brief illness. The beloved husband of Janet Elizabeth (Lofgren) Krock, he was a fixture in the Central Massachusetts business and banking community for over a half century. Barry was a devoted husband and father, who loved a good story and always had a twinkle in his eye. He had a winning smile and never took a bad picture.
Barry was born in Worcester, the son of Aaron and Anna (Levine) Krock. He was a graduate of Worcester Academy and Boston University. He began his career as an auctioneer, and it remained a lifelong passion. Barry and Janet traveled across the United States to auction fleets of planes, factories, and mills.
In 1964, at the age of 31, he became the president of Shrewsbury Bank and Trust, making him the youngest bank president in the nation. Barry went on to a long tenure as the president of Commerce Bank and Trust, which at one time was the largest independent bank in Central Massachusetts. He and the iconic "Commerce Lion" were legendary across Worcester and beyond as the representatives of a trusted community bank.
Barry was an enthusiastic supporter of his community. He supported The Jewish Home, Worcester Business Development, and the Worcester Science Center. Not only interesting, he was interested. As a dear friend said, "Main Street was his beat." He liked nothing more than talking to people and getting to know them. Barry's gentle touch and easy way with people aided him in his role as a community banker while helping countless businesses and individuals grow. His keen observations and sage advice were his trademarks.
In addition to his wife, Barry is survived by his daughter Kathryn Krock Parvin, his son-in-law Kevin Parvin, his grandchildren Harrison and Lily Parvin and his son Aaron Andrew Krock, all of Worcester.
Barry was buried in a private service officiated by Rabbi Mendel Fogelman. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home 1158 Main Street, Holden. A memorial remembrance will be held on Wednesday, September 4th, between 3-7pm at the Beechwood Hotel in Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor may be made to the Yeshiva - 22 Newton Ave, Worcester, Ma 01610.
