Barry F. Bedard

July 22, 1949 — December 2, 2024

WESTMINSTER – Barry F. Bedard, age 75, passed away peacefully at home in Westminster on Monday, December 2, 2024. Born in Fitchburg, he was the son of the late A. Ernest and Bertha M. (Duke) Bedard.

Barry grew up in Fitchburg and graduated from Notre Dame Preparatory School. He furthered his education at Fitchburg State University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in education.

After graduation, he worked briefly in special education for the Fitchburg Public Schools, and as a salesman for Ideal Toys. Most of his career then involved employment at AstraZeneca and Genzyme, where he retired as a shipping and receiving manager.

In his younger years, Barry was an active member of the Boy Scouts. It was during these years that he discovered his passion for nature which followed him throughout his life. He successfully climbed all forty-eight, 4000-foot peaks in the White Mountains. As his family would recall, Barry knew every square inch of Mount Monadnock and Wachusett Mountain from the decades of hiking. He also previously enjoyed running, and most recently successfully finished a 5K walk in Westminster.

He was a fan of all New England Sports and had season tickets with the New England Patriots for over 25 years. Barry was a longtime friend of Bill W., and he took comfort in helping other people overcome their struggles. He was a past board member of the Westminster Housing Authority. Barry was an avid reader and enjoyed discussing the books he was reading and igniting the love of reading in children.

Most importantly, he loved his family; this love was shown through hosting family gatherings to include the yearly Fourth of July cookouts and Christmas parties. He would often reflect that through these gatherings, important and fond memories were created for the younger members of the family.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Erica J. (Woods) Bedard; a daughter, Kate Lewis and her husband, Jason of Northborough; a son, Craig Bedard and his partner, Elise Levesque of Hopkinton; a twin brother, Alan Bedard and his wife, Diane of Westminster; 2 sisters, Linda Clark and her husband, Robert of Marlborough, Brenda Robillard and her husband, William of Clayton, Delaware; a grandson, Sean Errington, and his ex-wife, Nancy Bedard. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, Ronald Bedard.
