JEFFERSON- Barbara Spakauskas, 84, of Jefferson MA, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 5, 2023, surrounded by her loving family, after years of fighting Parkinson's disease with strength and resilience.
Family meant everything to Barbara. She is survived by her devoted husband, Ronald Spakauskas; her beloved children, Wendy Nickel, Cheryl Spakauskas, Joel Spakauskas and his wife, Wendi; her grandchildren who brought her immense joy, Emily and Jack Spakauskas, Katie (Ober) Martin, her husband, Sean and their son, her great-grandson, Callan.
She is also survived by her siblings and their spouses, Paul and Elaine David, Nancy David and April Mellen, Linda and Carl DiPilato and Alice and Joseph Ferraro; her brother-in-law, Michael Aramento as well as many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents John and Josephine David, her sister Joanne Aramento and her best friend Pauline (Kenneway) Merhib.
Throughout her life, Barbara embodied love and compassion. She was always helping others, both in significant and subtle ways, with generosity and selflessness. Although Barbara was a teacher by profession, her true passion was in nurturing and unifying her family. Having her family together was her greatest source of happiness. She also enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening, volunteering for the church, schools, and annual Madrigal Dinners, cooking (especially Polish and Syrian recipes), watching a good crime show, pizza, popcorn and potato chips, sewing, stories and laughing with friends - and quality time spent with her cherished husband.
When told she was loved, Barbara would often reply, "I love you more," reflecting the depth of her affection. This sentiment encapsulates her way of life and serves as her lasting legacy in our hearts.
A service and celebration of Barbara's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 29th at Saint Mary's Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson.
