RUTLAND – Barbara G. (Rugg) Hayes, 85, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 after an illness. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Charles P. and Katherine (Briggs) Rugg and had lived most of her life in Holden and Rutland. She leaves her loving husband of 62 years, Edward S. Hayes, Jr.; two children, Elizabeth Hayes Fitzsimons and her husband, John of Hingham; Edward S. Hayes III of Glendale, AZ; and her granddaughter, Caitlin C. Fitzsimons of New York. Barbara graduated from Classical High School in 1950 and Green Mountain Junior College in Poultney, VT in 1952. She was a teller at the former Worcester Five Cent Savings Bank and was a member for 70 years at the First Unitarian Church of Worcester. She was a member of the Mayflower Society and was a proud descendant of Thomas Rogers. Barbara loved to spend time with her family, enjoyed Genealogy and loved animals. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A funeral service for Barbara will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 28 in the funeral home followed by a committal service at Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery in North Kingston, Rhode Island. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jewish Healthcare Hospice, 629 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
