STERLING – Barbara (Burke) Hartigan, of Newell Hill Road, died peacefully at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, Worcester, on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, she was 67 years old. Mrs. Hartigan was born on March 22, 1945 in Havre de Grace, Maryland the daughter of Gerald and Fae (Paul) Burke and had lived in Charlestown before moving to Sterling 14 years ago.
She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Stephen Hartigan of Sterling; daughter, Kristin Quarton and her husband Rick and their son Jack of New Hampshire; a brother, Jeffrey Burke and his wife Robin and a sister, Sandy England and her husband Kevin all of Virginia.
Mrs. Hartigan earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design from the University of Pennsylvania. She became a Vice President of Allmerica Insurance Company in Worcester, before owning her own company, Financial Priorities Company, in Sterling. She loved being a resident of Sterling and immersed herself in town life during the 14 years she lived there. She was a member of the Sterling Garden Club, the Sterling National Country Club and the Sterling Chocksett Club. Mrs. Hartigan was also the financial planner for the MASS Horticultural Society as well as a member of the Financial Planning Association. She was a member at the Old North Church on Salem Street in Boston where she enjoyed ushering and lecturing. If she had any leisure time, Mrs. Hartigan preferred to spend it playing golf with her loving husband at the Sterling National Country Club. She will be greatly missed by the countless co-workers, relatives and friends who she has touched and inspired.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service honoring the life of Mrs. Hartigan on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 4 p.m. at the Old North Church, 195 Salem Street, Boston. Burial will be private. Please omit flowers, donations may be made to the Old North Foundation, 193 Salem Street, Boston, MA 02113. The Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling is assisting the family with arrangements.
