Barbara (Gilbert) Campbell

HOLDEN – Barbara (Gilbert) Campbell, 86, of 65 Briarwood Circle, Worcester, died Thursday, February 27, 2004, in Holy Trinity Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, after an illness.

She leaves her husband of 54 years, Peter W. Campbell; a son, Steven G. Campbell of Worcester; a daughter, Melissa C. and her husband Kenneth R. Petersen of West Hartford, CT; and three grandchildren, Nathan C. Petersen of Greenville, SC, Philip S. and Bethany Petersen, both of W. Hartford. A brother, Walter J. Gilbert, Jr., predeceased her. She was born in Providence, RI, the daughter of Walter J. and Mary B. (Barnard) Gilbert, and lived 53 years in Holden before moving to Worcester last year. She graduated Hope High School in Providence and Pembroke College in Providence with a degree in Biology in 1939.

Mrs. Campbell was the business manager for Campbell Magnetic & Machine Company in Worcester for many years until her retirement in 1979. Previously she worked for the Rhode Island Bank & Trust. She was active for many years in Girl Scouting, was an avid reader, and devoted to her family.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 2, in the Briarwood Community Center, 65 Briarwood Circle, Worcester. Burial will be private in Swan Pointe Cemetery, Providence. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, March 1, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Donations may be made to the Briarwood Residence Assistance Fund, 65 Briarwood Circle, Worcester, MA 01606; or the Hartford Christian Academy, Music Fund, 155 Mountain Road, W. Hartford, CT 06107.
