Biography
WORCESTER - Barbara (Caplin) Ganek, age 83, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2014 at Saint Vincent Hospital, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Worcester, a daughter of Jacob and Mary (Levine) Caplin and was a lifelong resident of Worcester. She leaves her husband of 62 years, Edward S. Ganek; two daughters, Laura, wife of Vernon Dunlap of Lincoln, RI and Frances Ganek of Worcester; a son, Mark Ganek of Worcester; and her grandchildren, Mattie and Joshua Dunlap. She was predeceased by her brothers, Burton and Harry Caplin, and by her sister, Edith Caplin.
She was a member of Temple Emanuel Sinai, Worcester Chapter of Hadassah and B'Nai Brith Women International. She spent many happy hours through the years at the YWCA with the water "walking group" and the "special" exercise group. Her favorite times were spent with her family. She enjoyed played mahjong for many years with her special mahjong group of friends. She spent many hours volunteering at the American Red Cross and the Fallon Healthcare.
For 17 years, she was a secretary at Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 2:00 P.M. ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 26, AT TEMPLE EMANUEL SINAI, 280 MAY STREET, WORCESTER UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF MILES FUNERAL HOME OF HOLDEN. Burial will be in B'Nai Brith Cemetery, Worcester.
Memorial Observance will be held through Friday afternoon, December 26, at Temple Emanuel Sinai, 280 May Street, and Sunday afternoon through Sunday evening at the family's residence.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
