Biography
WORCESTER – Barbara E. Brodsky, 89, of Philadelphia, died on Monday, June 29th in her residence.
She leaves a sister, Thelma, wife of Howard Lockwood of Worcester; a sister-in-law, Judy Brodsky of Princeton, New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews; Gay and Susan Lockwood, Marsha Cramer and her husband, Michael, John Brodsky and his wife Ellen, Frances Brodsky and her partner Peter Parham; and her grand-nieces and grand-nephews, Matthew and Melanie Cramer, and Jordan and Jake Brodsky; and one great-grand niece, April. She was predeceased by her brother David Brodsky.
She was born in Worcester a daughter of Hyman M. and Frances (Josephs) Brodsky and had lived in Philadelphia for many years.
She graduated from Classical High School, Clark University and from Boston Nursery Training School which is now part of Tufts University. She taught nursery school for many years at the Samuel Smith School, the first public free school in Burlington, New Jersey. In her retirement, she was a member of the Philadelphia Mayor's Committee on Literacy as an adult literacy volunteer.
The family expresses its grateful thanks to Cynthia Schofield, her caregiver, for her kindness and exceptional care.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 11:30AM ON THURSDAY JULY 2ND IN TEMPLE EMANUEL SINAI AT 661 SALISBURY STREET, WORCESTER UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF MILES FUNERAL HOME OF HOLDEN. Burial will be in B'Nai Brith Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Following the interment Memorial Observance will be held Thursday afternoon at Temple Emanuel Sinai and will continue on Friday until 4pm at the residence of Thelma and Howard Lockwood at The Willows, 101 Barry Road, Apartment 1224, Worcester
