PAXTON-Barbara A. (Ball) Luca, 81, died peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2014 at St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, surrounded by her loving family.
Barbara was born in Beverly, Massachusetts in 1933 and married Joseph Luca in 1959. Barbara and Joe lived for several years in Salem before moving to Shrewsbury and made their home in Paxton for the past 30 years.
Barbara was a lovely, kind-hearted woman with keen observational skills. She never failed to notice a butterfly fluttering in the breeze, an unusual cloud, a beautiful bird swooping by, a glorious sunset, the colors of autumn or the colorful emotion of language and song.
Barbara had an inquisitive mind, was a deep and independent thinker and a voracious reader. She had tremendous empathy for others and great compassion for children. She was a terrific homemaker and her homemade meatballs were excellent.
Barbara lived and laughed alongside her devoted husband. Together Barbara and Joe engaged in numerous activities: dancing, walking in Moore State Park, listening to music, singing, driving, visiting, traveling, making each other laugh and eating ice cream sundaes. Barbara was a devoted grandmother, a beloved mother and a loving wife/sweetheart. Joe loved her with all his heart. They cared for each other in sickness and in health. She will be dearly missed and will be kept in the hearts and memories of her loved ones.
In addition to her husband, Barbara leaves her three children, Carmela “Cammy” Calzone and her husband, John of Milford, Frank Luca and his wife, Brenda of Broomall, PA and Christina Luca of Riverside, RI and her grandson, John Calzone.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Barbara’s family on Monday, October 20, from 4-7 p.m. at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 21, from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Church, 40 Temple Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery, Paxton. Memorial donation may be made in lieu of flowers to St. John’s Feed the Poor, 44 Temple Street, Worcester, MA 01604.
