B Elizabeth (Wales) Felton Joyal

RUTLAND – B. Elizabeth (Wales) Felton Joyal passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2009 after a short illness.
Elizabeth was born on April 24, 1916, a daughter of Albert F. and Belle A. (Fay) Wales. She was born in the General Rufus Putnam House in Rutland, where her father was the caretaker. At an early age the family moved to West Rutland where she attended grade school. She graduated from Rutland High School in 1934. In 2008, she returned for a visit to the Rufus Putnam home on the occasion of her ninety-second birthday.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wallace Joyal. She is survived by two sons, William F. Felton of Townsend and Newell Felton, her caregiver, of Gardner; and her daughter, Fay E. (Felton) Payne of West Brookfield; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was predeceased by her former husband, A. Newell Felton, Sr., her brothers, Francis Wales and Albert Wales, and sisters, Helen Donaldson, Greta Christianson, Barbara Viner, Alice Burke and great-granddaughter, Melyssa Cote.
She relocated to Connecticut in 1972 and worked at Shop 'n Save, retiring in 1981 only to go back to work until reaching her early 80's when she finally retired for good. At Elizabeth's request, there are no calling hours. Following her cremation, family and friends are invited to a graveside service at the family plot at Rural Cemetery, Main Street (Rte. 122A), Rutland at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 10th. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elizabeth's name can be made to the Rutland Fire Brigade, 240 Main Street, Rutland, MA 01543. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden is directing arrangements.
Elizabeth has come full circle, born in Rutland and returned to Rutland in 2006 and her final resting place in Rutland. We love you.
