S Doris A.W. Nelson

HOLDEN – Doris A. W. (Johnson) Nelson, 90, died on Saturday, November 11, 2006, in the Lutheran Home of Worcester after a long illness.

Doris was born in Buhl, Minnesota on February 16, 1916, the daughter of the late Albert and Anna (Carlson) Johnson. Her sister, Violet C. Johnson and her brother, Wallace A. Johnson predeceased her. Doris graduated from Buhl High School where she was an avid tennis player and moved to Worcester in 1941 where she met her husband, the late P. Holger Nelson. They were married in 1943 and moved to Holden in 1948. She lived in Holden until 2001 when she became a resident of the Lutheran Home of Worcester. Doris worked for several years at Astra Pharmaceutical Company in Worcester. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holden where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Senior Koinonia.

Doris had many friends but the most important part of her life was her family. She is survived by two daughters, Beverly Hobbs wife David Hobbs of Worcester and Karen Nelson of Farmington, Connecticut. She is lovingly remembered and survived by her four grandchildren, Amina Johnson of Roslindale, Trevor Johnson of Auburn, Washington, Ann-Elise Johnson of Winooski, Vermont and Merete Nelson of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania; and her great-grandchildren, Annika and Max Sivak of Roslindale and Graham Resmer of Winooski, Vermont.

The funeral service for Doris will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, in Immanuel Lutheran Church, 346 Shrewsbury Street, Holden. Burial will follow in All Faith’s Cemetery, 7 Island Road, Worcester. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 14, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lutheran Home of Worcester, 26 Harvard Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
