Attilio C. Alinovi

RUTLAND – Attilio C. Alinovi, 83, of 50 Pommogussett Rd. died Wednesday, September 1, 2004, in Umass Medical Center, Worcester.

His wife of 35 years, Irene E. (DuBrule) Alinovi died in 1984. He leaves a son, Peter P. Alinovi and his wife Donna of Barre, VT; a daughter, Susan M. Alinovi with whom he lived; a brother, Hugo Alinovi of Rutland; two sisters, Sister Aldina Alinovi of the Sisters of Mercy, Worcester and Rena Estes of Mountain View, CA; two grandchildren, Kristal Dow and Joshua Alinovi; a great grandson, Quinn Alinovi; and several nieces. A sister, Irma Bozzi predeceased him.

He was born in Rutland the son of Pietro and Dina (Sartori) Alinovi and lived here all his life. He was a World War II Army Veteran and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.

Mr. Alinovi was head of building maintenance for 29 years with the former Denholm and McKay Co. in Worcester until the department store closed in 1973. He then went to work as a carpenter for Madigan Construction Co. in Southbridge until he retired after 10 years in 1983. He graduated from the former Rutland High School and Worcester Boys Trade High School.

Mr. Alinovi was active in the Rutland town government for over 35 years in various appointed and elected capacities. He was the town’s first building inspector, served nine years on the Rutland School Committee, served on two school building committees and five years on the Wachusett Regional School District Committee. He was a Selectman for 14 years, served several years as chairman of the Finance Committee and was a member of the Planning Board.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church and the Rutland Lions Club where he received both the Melvin Jones and the Joseph Camarda Fellowship Awards. He was also a member of the Rutland American Legion Post and the former Veterans of Foreign Wars of Rutland.

The funeral for Mr. Alivoni will be held Saturday, September 4, from the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 258 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Rutland. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery (Rte. 122A) in Holden. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 3, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Patrick’s Church, P.O. Box 939, Rutland, MA 01543.
