HOLDEN – Joseph A. Sigel, Jr., 91, of 20 Wyoming Drive, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, July 20, 2007, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 62 years, Irene R. (Thienel) Sigel; three daughters, Dianne C. Mattison of Holden, Denise E. Nephew and her husband Peter of West Boylston and Darlene M. McGann and her husband Leo of Jefferson; a sister, Bertha DiPierro of Worcester; five grandchildren, Michelle T. Warman, John J. Mattison and Mark W. Mattison all of West Boylston, Julie M. McGann of Malden and Shawn C. McGann of Gardner; and four great-grandchildren, Sarah and Meghan Mattison and Autumn and Kai Warman. Two brothers and two sisters predeceased him. He was born and raised in Worcester, son of Joseph A. and Stacia (Dombrowski) Sigel, and has lived in Holden for 55 years.
Mr. Sigel was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the 432nd Anti Aircraft Artillery Battalion in the European Middle Eastern Theatre. He worked for Worcester Cold Storage for 40 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Eight Point Sportsman’s Club in Sterling and the Teamsters Union Local #170 in Worcester. He enjoyed hunting, trap shooting, fishing and being a handyman around the house.
Family and friends are invited to a calling hour from 9 to 10 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 24th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. Memorial donations may be made to VNA Care Hospice, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608-1280.
