WEST BOYLSTON - Arthur W. Murdock, 73, of West Boylston, passed peacefully on January 18, 2022, at UMass Memorial Hospital.
Arthur was born on September 15, 1948, to Douglas and Christel (Charlton) Murdock in Gardner, MA. After graduating from Athol High School he went on to work for many local companies including The Gardner News, Charles G. Allen, Hakala Bros, E.J. Prescott and Wachusett Precast.
Art had many hobbies though he is likely best known for his many years as a catcher in the City Softball League. After hanging up his cleats, Art eventually took to walking and became a member of “Men With Heart” logging many miles and raising awareness and funds for Breast Cancer research through events such as the Susan G. Komen and Avon walks.
In his final years, Art met his partner Lynda. Each widowed, their bond gave them another chance for happiness, and they spent their time together seeking adventures and simply enjoying each day
Everyone who knew Art knew that he was a kind, loving and gentle man, that he was always willing to lend a hand, and that he loved his family very much. Art was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Murdock, brothers Bob, Gene and Walter Murdock, sisters Dorothy Salminen and Lenny Schlicke, and grandson Larry Skamarycz. He is survived by his partner, Lynda Simeone, daughter Kimberly Wallace, stepchildren Tina Scanlan, Lawrence Skamarycz and his wife Mercedes, sisters Barbara DiStefano and Margery Aukstikalnis, grandchildren Amanda Cronin, Justin, Shane and Annie Skamarycz and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
