SHREWSBURY - Arthur Arnold Gerber, 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 22nd with his family by his side. He was born in Rockville Center, NY on May 30, 1941, a son of Molly (Berliner) and Meyer Gerber. He has lived in his beautiful Shrewsbury home for 30 years.
He’ll be missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 33 years, Emily Ritz Gerber; his daughter, Michelle; his step-son, Mark Prince; his three grand-daughters, Maddie, Sophie, and Lillie; his brother, Daniel Gerber and his wife, Ginny of Mount Sinai, NY; his two nieces, Tracy and Kim; his brother-in-law, Jesse Ritz and his wife, Susan of Holden; his nieces, Lindsay and Julie; his nephew, Josh; his sister-in-law, Lorna Ritz of Amherst; his cousin, Sophie Weber of New York; his cousin, Joanie Goldberg of New Jersey and her family; his cousin, Amnon Lipzin of Israel and his family; his cousin, Arnie Berliner of Floriday and his family; and many, many dear friends.
From a young age, he was lovingly called Artie. He graduated from South Side High School in Rockville Centre in 1959. He was proud to have served in the Army Reserves. He attended Colorado University and became a Computer Programs Analyst, which he immensely enjoyed doing at Algonquin Gas Company for over 20 years, Stride Rite, and Saint Vincent Hospital, among others.
He was passionate about Golden Retrievers and the NEADS organization, jazz music (a lifelong supporter of WICN), playing piano (both his own beautiful compositions and jazz standards), skiing, traveling in the RV with his wife, daughter, and dog, working in his garden, following the news very closely (MSNBC was a constant companion), his annual summer high school reunion at Tanglewood, boating on the ocean and family’s lake house in Spencer, the Yankees, PBS programming (especially their space exploration documentaries) and he was very proud of the beautiful new deck he had recently finished building at his home in Shrewsbury.
He loved teaching computer skills at various local colleges and was praised by his students as an incredibly patient and helpful teacher.
His daughter always looked to him as a voice of reason and support and they both cherished their long, meaningful talks. His wife loved him dearly and they treasured all the time they spent together.
He will be sorely missed by all his friends and family, but mostly by Shiloh, his loyal sweetheart Golden Retriever who lay in his lap every single day.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 26th at 1:30 PM at Temple Emanuel Sinai, 661 Salisbury Street, Worcester under the direction of Richard Perlman of Miles Funeral Home of Holden.
