HOLDEN - Arthur Leo Esposito, 20, of Holden, formerly of Malawi, Switzerland, and Kenya died on Thursday, November 17, 2011 in his home. He is survived and will be missed by his mother Jennifer, father Gerard, brothers, Oscar and Gaspar; his Grandparents Brenda and Leo McCabe of Holden and Dr. Pascal and Laura Esposito of Lausanne, Switzerland; as well as a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends worldwide.
Arthur attended Wachusett Regional High School where he played soccer, track, and volleyball. Even in the midst of his struggle with cancer, Arthur enjoyed an active and full life with his friends and family. Whether he was swimming too far, kayaking in rugged waters, or driving a little too fast Arthur had a zest for sports, being active, and pushing his limits. He was a one legged rope swinging lunatic who also took great pleasure in spending time with family and friends.
Arthur also loved music, educating his aunts and uncles about the joys of Offspring, Dropkick Murphys and Eminem. He enjoyed going to concerts, where one trip to the Dropkick Murphys found him jumping one-legged on stage, prosthetic in the air, belting out the chorus of “Shipping off to Boston”. In addition to listening to music, Arthur loved to play the drums.
Whatever the activity, Arthur fully embraced the moment and always made the event memorable. He had an intelligent, perceptive, and sharp wit that made the people he loved and those that loved him laugh and cry with memories of his many unforgettable comments and observations. Underneath the ubiquitous Red Sox hat (he had quite the collection) was a radiant and irresistible smile that will long be remembered by his family and friends.
The most difficult times were made easier by the staff of Jimmy Fund and Children’s Hospital.
Recently Arthur posted the following on his Facebook site: "No one knows when they are going to die, spend as much time with the ones you love, God bless”.
A gathering of friends and family was held on Saturday, November 19th in Arthur’s home. Memorial arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jimmy Fund Clinic, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 44 Binney Street, Boston, MA 02115-6084.
