Arthur P. Andrews

April 24, 1938 — December 11, 2021

RUTLAND – Arthur P. Andrews, age 83, passed away peacefully at his home in Rutland on Saturday, December 11, 2021, following a long battle with Parkinson’s. Born in Attleboro, he was the son of the late Arthur W. and Anne (Duffy) Andrews.

Art was raised in Attleboro, graduating from Attleboro High School, and went on to proudly serve his country in the US Air Force. He married his high school sweetheart, Judith F. Hawes, and they moved to Rutland in 1968 where they would raise their family. Arthur worked as a machinist at Photopanels of New England in Princeton, for over 40 years.

Art served on the Rutland Board of Health, Board of Fire Engineers, and was a volunteer firefighter for 37 years, he was also a proud member of the Rutland Fire Brigade. He was well known for his participation with the Fire Brigade in the annual 4th of July Parade in Rutland.

Art was an avid Boston sports fan and was an original season ticket holder in Foxboro.He loved being outdoors spending time with his family camping, hiking, swimming and cross-country skiing. He helped create many happy memories at the Mountain House.

Over the years, he taught his children the importance of being self-sufficient, from changing the oil in a car to woodworking. He loved to have a good laugh and was known for his dry sense of humor. He was always present at his children and grandchildren’s’ sporting events and activities.

Art will be missed deeply by his wife of 61 years, Judith; three daughters, Cheryl Hooper and her husband, William of Newbury, Cynthia Joslyn and her husband, Christopher of Holden, Cathryn Andrews and her husband, Brad of Center Conway, NH; his son, James Andrews and his wife, Joellen of Rutland; two sisters, Marilyn Raposa and her late husband, Edward of Attleboro, Ruth Piasecki and her husband, David of Lakeville; eight grandchildren, Dayna, Alysha, Tearyn, Cameron, Peter, Clare, Erin and Cooper; and five great-grandchildren. Along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He never let his diagnoses of Parkinson’s keep him from living life to its fullest. His family was dedicated to his care and will be forever grateful to John Baido Smith, his caretaker these last two years.

A private funeral service will be held at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A Celebration of Arthur’s Life will be held at a later date. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rutland Fire Brigade, 240 Main Street, Rutland, MA 01543.
