Arthur 'Spud' Andrews

March 29, 1924 — January 22, 2014

DRACUT/WORCESTER – Arthur “Spud” Andrews, 89, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Knollwood Nursing Center. He was born in Dracut on March 29, 1924, the son of Spyros and Helen (Kosaris) Andrews, and had lived in Dracut before moving to Worcester five years ago.

His loving wife of 69 years, Gladys H. (Perks) Andrews passed away on October 15, 2013. He leaves his son, Arthur F. Andrews and his wife, Deborah of Townsend; his granddaughter, Holly Iarrobino and her husband, Ryan of Sterling; three great-grandsons, Zachary, Benjamin and Andrew Iarrobino.

Spud was a Navy veteran of World War II serving aboard the USS YMS 303 in the Asiatic Pacific and European African Middle Eastern Theatres. He was an oil burner technician for over 25 years at McDonald Oil Company in Lowell retiring 1983. He was a 3rd Degree Free Mason of the William North Lodge A. F. & A. M. in Lowell and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 25 in Lowell.

A private graveside service for Spud will be held at a later date at Gibson Cemetery in Pelham, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Massachusetts Chapter, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
