WORCESTER - Arnold H. Ravelson, aged 94, died on October 17, 2024 at the Jewish Health Care Center surrounded by his loving family. Arnie is survived by his beloved wife Barbara of 68 years, his three children, Larry Ravelson (Erin), Bernie Ravelson (Heidi), Ellen Gansler (Rick) and his sister, Judy Shriber (Allan). He also leaves his cherished grandchildren, Michael and Julia Ravelson, and Ian and Alana Gansler, and many nieces and nephews.
Born in Worcester, MA, son of the late Maurice and Ruth Ravelson, Arnie attended Commerce High School. He served in the United States Navy and upon his return he joined his father in the family business. Due to Arnie’s vision and business acumen he built a small store into a chain of seven retail stores known as “Maurice the Pants Man.” His stores were a shopping destination for generations of Worcesterites purchasing their back to school clothes, holiday gifts and Levi’s jeans and cords for the entire family. Arnie became a local celebrity on the radio with his ads in which he encouraged people to “Come on Down.” He would be recognized and greeted on his daily walks through downtown Worcester on his way to the store on Millbury Street. Arnie was proud to have had his three children join him in the business. Over the years, Arnie also mentored hundreds of young adults who worked in the stores.
During retirement Arnie and Barbara continued to enjoy their summers in Maine and winters in Florida. They were very fortunate to enjoy a close community of friends with whom they maintained connections throughout many decades.
The family are especially grateful to his devoted caregivers, Eva Brantley, Margaret Mwangi, Bea Kagotho, and Albeiro Acosta.
Funeral services will be held at 12PM, Sunday, October 20 at Temple Emanuel Sinai, 661 Salisbury Street, Worcester. Burial will be at B’Nai Brith Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home of Holden. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ruth and Maurice Ravelson Fund at the Jewish Healthcare Center, Temple Emanuel Sinai, or a charity of your choice.
