HOLDEN – April A. (Balcom) Hunter, 53, passed away at home comforted by her husband and dearest friends on Monday, December 22, 2014 after a battle with cancer. She was born in Worcester and raised in Auburn and had lived in Holden since 1992.
She leaves her loving husband of 17 years, Michael J. Hunter who has been by her side for 25 years; her father, William Balcom and his wife Anita of Fruitland Park, FL; her mother, Linda (Baer) Maggiore and her husband Anthony of Englewood, FL; a sister, Joanne Balcom of Worcester; and nephews and nieces.
April graduated from Framingham Union Hospital School of Nursing with her RN, Assumption College earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and then she earned a master’s degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. She was an Occupational Health Practitioner at Marlborough Hospital Medworks in Southborough. Previously, she was a nurse practitioner with the emergency medicine group at UMass Memorial Medical Center for many years. April enjoyed needle work, quilting, and watching and feeding her backyard birds. She was an avid and dedicated gardener. April loved vacationing with her life-long, forever friends at Ocean Park and spending summers at Ocean View Campground both in Maine.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation hours on Saturday, Dec. 27, from 1 to 3 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A private committal service will be held at Walnut Grove Cemetery in North Brookfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden Street, Worcester, MA 01606.
